Thurmont is a quaint Maryland town located in the northern section of Frederick County, approximately ten miles from the Pennsylvania border along U.S. Highway 15. Thurmont is in close proximity to Cunningham Falls State Park and Catoctin Mountain Park, which is where Camp David is located. Thurmont was incorporated back in 1751 as the Town of Mechanicstown, but in January of 1894, the Maryland General Assembly changed it to Thurmont. As of the 2010 census, Thurmont was home to 6,170 people, still making it small enough for the townspeople to know each other quite well like they were family. In a small town like Thurmont, people still get arrested for the same crimes they would in Washington D.C., the only difference is it's a lot harder to keep an arrest or much less a conviction private.
At The Law Office of John R. Discavage, P.A., we take pride in representing the residents of Thurmont and all throughout Frederick County in their criminal charges. We understand how your privacy and your integrity are important to you, and we completely respect this and will treat your case with the utmost level of confidentiality. Good people get arrested for crimes every single day, and sometimes honest, hardworking people make mistakes along the way. If you had a few too many drinks at dinner one night and was arrested on your way home, or if your spouse called the police during a heated argument, or if your son or daughter was arrested for trying to purchase alcohol, we are here to defend your rights and pursue a favorable outcome on your behalf in all of these situations.
We know that normal people get mixed up in illegal acts, but that does not mean that you deserve to suffer the full consequences of making a mistake. Most of our clients not only have jobs depending on the outcome of their case, but they have a family back home that is entirely affected by their case outcome. As a client-driven law firm that is believes family comes first, we care about what happens to you, how much fines you pay, and we care about keeping you out of jail or prison and at home where you belong.
Our lead attorney, John Discavage, is a former Maryland Assistant State's Attorney, and he has also spent time working with the Federal Public Defender's Office. As a former prosecutor, he knows the ins and outs of the Maryland criminal justice system, and he knows how to anticipate the prosecution's moves before it makes them. This enables him to secure favorable plea agreements for his clients and it enables him to seek out and identify weaknesses or flaws in a criminal case. Despite a client's guilt or innocence, when the prosecution doesn't have enough hard evidence against his client, attorney Discavage can exploit this situation to his client's full advantage. As a defendant, you want a lawyer who is creative and ingenious in their thinking, and not someone who will give up on you when things get difficult or complex.
Our firm handles a wide variety of misdemeanor and felony offenses in Maryland. If you were arrested for boating under the influence (BUI) or driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs, or even lawfully prescribed drugs (DUI), we can defend you. We also handle domestic abuse cases that occur between husbands and wives, family members, parents and children and couples, as well as alleged violations of protective orders. A violation of a protective order can be very serious since it can ultimately result in a jail sentence, and it can cause you to lose custody or visitation of your children if you have any. Neither consequence is something that you would want; therefore, if you are being accused of violating your protective order or if you have had a probation violation, we urge you to contact our firm for an aggressive legal defense.
A criminal conviction is not a good thing, for it would tarnish your record for years to come. Often times an employer won't want to hire you if you have any criminal record, regardless of what you were convicted for, and you would also be put constantly in the position of having to explain what happened to perfect strangers. We understand the full ramifications of your charges and we know how a conviction can have life-altering consequences that won't only affect you, but your loved ones as well. For this reason, we firmly dedicate all of our efforts at doing everything possible to secure a favorable outcome on your behalf. Even if you did make a mistake, it does not mean you have to be convicted. Our system is supposed to assume you're not guilty until proven beyond a reasonable doubt and if the state doesn't have enough evidence to convict you, this can work to your advantage.
Whether you're facing criminal charges for DUI/DWI, a drug crime, theft charges, or a serious felony crime, we offer superior criminal defense services to those who need them. We also represent clients at MVA hearings and we assist clients with applying for an expungement. No matter what your current predicament is, we are here to guide you every step of the way and help turn things around in your favor.
