On the afternoon of March 5th, 2013, Frederick Fire and Rescue responded to the report of an accident in the 7500 block of Green Valley Road (Route 75) involving a car that had rear-ended a school bus. At the time of the accident there were apparently 15 students on board the bus. Thankfully none of the students sustained serious injuries, however four of the students were transported to Frederick Memorial Hospital for non life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Kia, 31-year-old Timothy Deane Jr., was flown to Meritus Medical Trauma Center for treatment of minor injuries. According to the Frederick County Sheriff's Office, Deane is now facing negligent driving charges as a result of the accident.
Car accidents can be extremely dangerous and, as anyone who has ever been involved in a car accident will tell you, these types of accidents are capable of causing all types of serious injuries and damage. School bus accidents can be even more dangerous, as most school buses do not have seat belts or other safety measures in place to protect the children they are transporting. Due to this fact, when a school bus is involved in an accident, the potential for serious, life-threatening injuries can be much greater than a car accident.
